Here is a talk from ラジオ英会話.

Topic is “but” , “when while”.

First story is a son and his mother are talking about his teacher’s jokes.

a Mom, your beaf bowl is the best! It's so much better than the one they serve in my college cafeteria.

b I'm glad you like it. But we ran out of red pickled ginger, though.

a No ginger. That reminds me of my new English teacher, Onishisensei.

b Really? why?

a Well, I like my new teacher but hate his jokes.

b Why does having no ginger remind you of his jokes?

a He always says no ginger when he means shoganai.

Second story is about two persons are talking about Japanese food culture.

a  So, this is real miso ramen.It's delicious.

b Yes, there's nothing quite like miso ramen.

a Why aren't you slurping your ramen?  I heard it's not bad manners to slurp noodles in Japan?

b But I'm not Japanese.

a Oh,  I thought you were Japanese.

b Actually, I'm British. My parents are Japanese. They immigrated to the UK a long time ago.

a Oh, right. So, you don't speak any Japanese at all?

b Well, a little, but I'm not at all fluent.

Excuse me, but could you tell me where the nearest ATMis?

Third story is about a doughter and her father are talking about her school’s rumor.

a Mina, I heard a rumor about your school.

b Really? What kind of rumor?

a I heard there is a strict teacher at your school who tells bad jokes.

b Bad jokes? I think I know who are talking about. It's my teacher.

a I heard he sometimes puts students down.

b No way! 

My teacher never puts students down but always gives confidence.

a OK, that's a relief. What's your teacher's name?

b I don't want to say.

Cris is not old but young.

This dish is not only delicious but also very heaalthy.

It 's not what you say that matters but how you say it.

 

Last story is about two persons are talking about Kabuki.show.

a Do you know when the kabuki show starts?

b Let me check.  Yes, it starts at 11:00 am.

a Oh, so. What shall we do for lunch?

b I bought these makunouchi bentos for us while I was waiting for you.

We can eat them during intermission.

a Thanks a lot . You are very well organized.

But tell me what does makunouchi mean?

b I think it's between acts.

a OK. that's interesting. The problem is I 'm hungry already.
