Here is a talk from ラジオ英会話.

Topic is “though” , “although”.”if”

First story is two persons are talking about rugby game last night.

a Last night, I went an amateur ruguby game.

b Oh, really?

a I got interesred in rugby after I saw that international match together.

b Japan played very well. They've improved a lot.

a A handsome player named Kenta scored two tries last night!  He kept on playing although he was injured.

b Oh, do you like him?

a Yes. Even though he never smiles, he always makes me smile.

b Oh, I think you're in love.

Key sentence is He kept on playing although he was injured.

Karen doesn't usually eat meat though she had a burger for lunch today.

Although he is scared of heights, he went bunge jumping.

Even though it was pouring with rain, they still played golf.

 

Second story is A rugby player is interviewed.

a I watched you playing rugby last week.

You're injured, right? Are you OK?

b I'm fine. Thanks. It's not a serious injury.

a Why do you play so hard?

b The coach wants us to do our best. He is an excellent coach. He can be a bit aggressive, though.

a But you're not aggressive at all. You seem to be gentle.

b Maybe I have to tough when I play rugby.

a Is that why you never smiles?

b Well, it's one of the reasons.

The job was very demanding. I really enjoyed it ,though.

The house, though they liked it a lot, was beyond their budget.

Strange though it may seem, I acutually like rain.

 

Third story is Two colleagues are talking about umbrellas.

a Oh, no. It's raining!

b Didn't  you bring an umbrella?

a No, I wasn't expecting rain. The forecast just said it would be clouded today.

b If you wait a few mimutes, I'll give you a ride to the station.

a Really? That would be great. I 'm fed up with buying plastic umbrellas from a convenient store all the time.

b You should get a portable umbrella.

a I have one, but I never bring it when I needed it.

key sentence is If you wait a few minutes, I'll give you a ride to the station.

 

If it starts to rain, I'll bring the laundry in for you.

I'll pick you up if I tell me 

If I need any help, I'll call you.

 

Last story is two persons are talking about crowded theme park.

a This is the end line for the ride. It says we have to wait 40 minutes.

b How come it's so crowded on a weekday?

Why did we have to come here?

a If you say that again, I go home!

b I could be playing video games at home.

a Oh, it's that, Ahhh.

a Shhh, everybody's looking at us.

b So will you stop complaining now?

a Yes, yes. I'll do anything if only you'll stop screaming.

b Good.

key sntence is if you say that again, I'll go home.

If they change their tactics, they 'll lose the match.

If we goto Paris, we can eat the most delicious croissants.

If I were 30 years younger..



Although he was a bit nervous at first, he gave a great presentation. Everybody was impressed.
