Today's topic are verb 'stop' and 'sneak'

I have 2 diagrams.

 

stop

a How was the book signing event lastnight?

b I had a good time. I've always wanted to meet the author, Peacock.

a He is an expert on ancient civilizations, isn't he?

b Yes. He is an interesting speaker, as well.

a Was it crowded?

b Yes. It was packed and noizy. Everyone stopped chatting when the author arrived.

a Can I see the book that he signed?

b Sure. Here it is.

a Wow! The phorographs are amazing.

I quit my job.

1). Luckily, the rain stopped, and we were able to have our picnic.

2). I wanted to do 100 push-ups, but I gave up after 10!

3). The yoga class begins at 10:30 and finishes at 12.

 

sneak

a What happened to you at the karaoke place?

   You disappeared.

b I couldn't stand the boss's singing in his off- key voice.allnight.

 I managed to sneak out.

a I think it's part of being in the company.

b I know. But everyone has a limit.

a Our boss loves singing karaoke with the staff.

He's planning another party next month.

b Oh, really.  Can you let me know the date? I'll take that day off.

「こっそり」「こそこそ」がイメージ。「見られないように・気づかれないように」

I sneaked one of my mom’s brownies out of the kitchen.

私は母が作ったブラウニーのひとつをこっそり台所から持ち出した。

I hate it when you creep up on me.

君がそうっと僕に近づいてくるのがイヤだ。

The cat sta|ked the bird.

ネコはその鳥に忍び寄った。

警察は僕の妹につきまとっていた男を逮捕してくれた。

The police arrested the guy who was stalking my sister.

 

1). I sneaked into a private party, and nobody noticed me at all.

That’s what I get from “but” as well.

2). He crept up behind his little sister and frightened her to death!
